                   UNOFFICIAL LOGGING HOUSE RULES

  • Liability waivers must be signed to be in the facility, regardless of if you are throwing axes or not.
  • Closed-toe shoes are required to throw axes. Clogs are available for rent for $1.
  • MAX 5 people per lane. If you bring extra people and we don't have spare lanes they will have to wait in the bar or front area.
  • Non-throwers cannot hang out at the lane if there is no room.
  • Please be on time for your reservation. If your party arrives late, it is not guaranteed you will be able to throw for the full duration of your reservation.

  Topic:  Rethink Waste:  Responsible Consumption, Use, and Disposal of Materials in the Post-Sunriver Recycling Center Era

  The Environmental Center

  Bend, OR

  Naomi Serio is the Rethink Waste Program Coordinator at the Environmental Center, where she focuses on educating the community about waste-related issues. Her professional background has focused on research and education related to society's relationship with the natural world. 

  The Rethink Waste Project (RWP) envisions a community that understands the upstream and downstream impacts of using Earth's resources and makes responsible decisions about the consumption, use, and disposal of materials. The presentation will focus on the importance of reducing, reusing, and repairing, as well as an overview of local recycling guidelines.

  Menu choices:  

  • Fettuccini Bolognese, parmesan cheese, Garlic toast
  • Caesar Salad, creole blackened chicken breast
  • Chickpea penne pasta, creamy spinach, fried garlic, smoked onion, sundried tomato, Manchego cheese

   Dessert:  Flourless chocolate torte, caramel, powdered sugar

  Seating: Limited to 69 members.  

  Cost: $30 without dessert and $35 with dessert.  We ask members to pay for monthly luncheons in advance online with a credit card. Paying in advance is necessary to ensure that our meal count is confirmed and helps to save volunteer time, as the treasurers do not have to manage money at the door.   Fat tire biking at Wanoga Snow Park  

  Monday, Feb 24,  9-11am

  Meet at 8 am at the Village Bar and Grill parking lot for carpool.  Will leave parking lot at 8:10 am. Bring $3  for driver if carpooling.  This site requires a Snow Park pass per vehicle.  If meeting at Wanoga, the fat tire bike trailhead is on the east end across from the sledding hill.

  Description of event:  Beginner/Introduction to fat tire biking.  Please indicate your height and we will determine an appropriate size bike and bring to Wanoga for you to ride.  We will plan on riding a 3.5 mile loop called 3 PSI.

  Fat tire biking is really fun if the conditions are good (has to be below freezing and best soon after the trail is groomed!).  If we get a lot of snow and/or warm weather around the 16^th, we’ll likely reschedule!

  What to bring/gear:

   Gloves, helmet (if you don’t have, we can provide), a buff or thin hat for under the helmet, warm hiking type boots, sunglasses (or clear lens glasses), layered clothing,  water, snack

  The cost for “rental” of the bikes is $10.  We have a limited number of small, medium and large fat tire bikes.  Please indicate your height and we will confirm your spot on a first come, first serve basis.  PLEASE BRING $10 CASH, EXACT CHANGE, FOR NANCY.

                  Community Horticulturist

                  OSU Extension, Central Oregon

  Topic:  Gardening in the High Desert: Sustainable and Water-wise Dos and Don’ts.

  Amy Jo Detweiler the community horticulturist for OSU Extension in Central Oregon since 1999.  She manages the local OSU Master Gardener program for this region and also provides education for green industry professionals. Amy Jo provides outreach and education for backyard gardeners focusing on sustainable gardening practices, water-wise gardening, fire-wise landscaping, and backyard food production with an emphasis on gardening in the High Desert.

  Menu Choices 

  • Sauteed shrimp scampi with long grain rice, grilled asparagus, fresh chives
  • Chef salad, romaine lettuce, turkey, ham, cheddar, Swiss, hard-boiled egg, cherry tomato, ranch dressing

  A ZOOM Kick Off Planning Meeting is scheduled for Friday, April 11 at 1 pm.  (PST).

  HeartySoles Spring Kickoff ZOOM meeting is scheduled for April 11th at 1pm PDT. An email to all members will be sent out a first week of April not only as a reminder for our annual planning meeting, and also a new revised list of HeartySole past hikes and 6 new added hikes to review.
  
  HeartySoles was started back in the 1990’s to create a path into Nature and healthy exercise in addition to the Club’s philanthropic side. Though this hiking club is chaired by 2 members, HeartySoles is run by its 150 + members and dependent on all the members contributing and willingness to lead or co-lead 1 hike a Season to keep the HS Club active and sustainable from May through October. So get out your “to do” calendars and plot out a hike you will help with & have a date that works for you as a leader and have at hand on April 11th for our planning & scheduling Zoom meeting!
  
  This year we are setting this Zoom meeting up early so all members can keep from having conflicts with family outings, medical & vet appointments, & personal appointments.

Registration opens on Monday, May 26 and closes on Monday, July 7 or when the event capacity of 200 guests is reached.  The picnic has sold out in each of the past two years therefore early registration is recommended.  When the event is sold out a waitlist is initiated.  Guests on the waitlist will be offered  spaces as cancellations are received.  Guests will receive a refund if their spots can be re-sold.  Please note:  We are unable to accommodate walk-ins.
