Power of Giving PRESS RELEASE

Be part of the 40%!

The 2026 Power of Giving campaign - “Building a Stronger Community, Together” -  begins this week. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to past Power of Giving campaigns. All of the money raised goes directly to the Community Grant Program. Last year, 25% of members contributed to the Power of Giving. This year, our goal is to increase participation in the Power of Giving to 40%. Help us reach the goal. If you have never donated to the Power of Giving, we ask that you take this opportunity to show your support. And you can double your impact now. Jane and Jay Daniel are generously matching all donations up to $5,000.

Through the combined efforts of members in 2025, the club awarded $96,000 to 20 nonprofits that serve our neighbors in south Deschutes County. In the spring of 2026, another $92,250 was distributed. If you have contributed to the Power of Giving in the past, we hope you will consider increasing your donation amount. No donation is too small or too big. Be part of the 40% of Sunriver Women’s Club members making a positive difference in south Deschutes County!

  Building a Stronger Community, Together

Every dollar donated to the Power of Giving campaign stays local, supporting nonprofits and public schools that are building a stronger network of services for, and improving the lives of, people living in south Deschutes County.

The Power of Giving Starts here:

Right now, the cost of everyday life is putting more pressure on families across south Deschutes County. Food, gas, housing and other essentials are stretching household budgets, while local organizations are seeing more people turn to them for support.

That’s why coming together matters. A strong community is built when we come together to support the people, families and organizations working to make life better for our neighbors.

The Sunriver Women’s Club Power of Giving campaign supports five priority areas that are deeply connected to the well-being of our community:

• Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention and Intervention

• Education & Youth Development

• Hunger Prevention

• Safe Housing

• Physical & Mental Health

These needs don’t exist in isolation. A child who has a safe home is better positioned to succeed in school. A family with access to nutritious food and health services has a stronger foundation to thrive. And when individuals and families are supported, our entire community becomes stronger.

Every dollar given through the Power of Giving stays local, supporting nonprofits and public schools serving people in south Deschutes County.

And this year, we’re starting with generous matching donors, Jane and Jay Daniel, giving your gift the opportunity to go even further.

Together, we can lift people up, strengthen families and build a stronger community.

Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention and Intervention:

Every child should grow up feeling safe, supported and surrounded by people who believe in their future.

Your gift to the Sunriver Women’s Club Power of Giving campaign helps local organizations protect children, strengthen families and create brighter futures right here in south Deschutes County.

For example, a $6,000 Community Grant to CASA of Central Oregon helps recruit, train and support Court Appointed Special Advocates who walk alongside children in foster care as they work toward safe, stable and permanent homes. In 2026, CASA expects to serve 32 youth in south Deschutes County.

And organizations like Mountain Star Family Relief Nursery are making a difference every day. In FY 2024–2025, 97% of the children they served remained free from confirmed cases of abuse and neglect.

When we give together, we can help more local children grow up safe, supported and ready to thrive.

Education & Youth Development:

Every child and youth should receive the support they need to succeed in school.

South Deschutes County students are making progress, but many young people still face barriers to attendance, academic achievement, enrichment, mental health support and opportunities after high school.

Your gift to the Power of Giving campaign helps local organizations give young people the support, encouragement and resources they need to build confidence, graduate with a career in mind and reach their full potential.

For example, a $10,000 Community Grant to Friends of the Children Central Oregon last year helped expand services in La Pine, allowing the organization to enroll 16 additional youth and hire two full-time professional mentors. These mentors provide consistent, relationship-based, trauma-informed support from kindergarten through high school graduation to youth facing the highest levels of risk.

That kind of long-term support can make a lasting difference in a young person’s life.

When we invest in our kids, we invest in the future of our entire community.

Hunger Prevention:

Everyone should have access to nutritious food.

For families and individuals in south Deschutes County, getting enough healthy food can be especially difficult when transportation, health challenges or caregiving responsibilities make it hard to access traditional food pantries.

Your gift to the Power of Giving campaign helps local organizations make sure nutritious food reaches the people who need it most.

For example, a $6,000 Community Grant to St. Vincent de Paul of La Pine last year supports their Food Access and Self-Sufficiency Support Program, helping provide food boxes and hot meals directly to homebound seniors, people with disabilities, single mothers and caregivers who may not be able to consistently access traditional pantry services.

Food access was identified as one of the top concerns among La Pine residents, with local food distribution sites described as too few and often understocked.

Together, we can help make sure that where someone lives—or the challenges they face—doesn't determine whether they have enough food on the table.

Physical & Mental Health:

Everyone deserves a safe, healthy place to call home.

For many families in La Pine and surrounding communities, the cost of housing continues to put a strain on household budgets. More than half of La Pine renters—58.5%—are considered housing-cost burdened, spending at least 30% of their income on rent.

Your gift to the Power of Giving campaign helps local organizations provide stability, safety and support for people who need it most.

For example, a $10,000 grant to Habitat for Humanity of La Pine Sunriver can help complete critical home repairs for approximately 8 low-income households, many of them seniors and veterans living on fixed incomes.

A safe home can mean so much more than four walls. It can mean stability, dignity, security and the ability to remain in the community you call home.

Together, we can help make safe, healthy housing more accessible for our neighbors.

Safe Housing:

Everyone deserves access to quality health services—and the support they need to feel healthy, confident and connected.

Your gift to the Power of Giving campaign supports local programs that help build healthier individuals, stronger families and more resilient communities.

One example is Girls on the Run, which helps girls in 3rd through 8th grade build confidence, develop healthy habits and form positive connections through physical activity, life-skills lessons and mentorship.

Last year, a $3,000 Sunriver Women’s Club grant helped support program materials and participation for local Girls on the Run teams at Three Rivers and La Pine Middle School.

And the results speak for themselves:

• 97% of girls learned critical life skills like resolving conflict, helping others and making intentional decisions.

• Girls who were least active when they began the program increased their physical activity by 40%.

When we invest in the well-being of our young people, we help create a healthier, stronger community for everyone.
