DESCHUTES AND MCGREGOR LOOP

When: Saturday, May 31, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Village Bar & Grill parking lot to carpool or meet at 9:30 a.m. at the trailhead. Bring $2 for driver if carpooling.

Description:
The Deschutes River Loop is
a 4.3 miles with 85 ft.elevation through La Pine State Park. This loop takes hikers alongside a large section of the Deschutes River, including McGregor Viewpoint, and through some nice Ponderosa Pine Forest. There are several starting points for this trail. Perhaps best is the trailhead just before the campground. Starting from here and hiking in a clockwise direction, you’ll share a path with the McGregor Trail for a while, continue through some nice young pine forest, and walk past two junctions - each with the Falls River Trail. You’ll soon come to the McGregor Viewpoint, a great view of a sweeping bend in the Deschutes River.  Requires a parking permit.

When considering signing up for this hike, please review the specifics (e.g. distance, elevation gain, trail surface - gravel, rocky, soft sand etc.) to determine if this trail meets your fitness level.

Gear: Water, snacks, $ for going out to lunch afterwards (optional), hiking poles (optional), sturdy hiking shoes, layered clothing, personal first aid supplies, insect repellent.
May require a parking permit that can be purchased at the parking lot.
