Hearty Soles Hike - LaConte Crater & Wickiup Plains from Devils Lake

LaConte Crater & Wickiup Plains from Devils Lake 

Moderate uphill 7 mile R/T through pine forests to reach the slightly rolling hills of Wickiup Plains with a straight on view of South Sister Mt & Rock Mesa. Elevation gain is 1,040 to edge of LaConte Crater. From there we cross country to the top of the Crater for additional .04 & gain giving us a commanding view for our lunch stop. We can also walk around the top area of the Crater. In addition there are other sites to see such as Table Rock & a Volcanic Plug on this wide expanse of Plains.  Might even see a herd of Elk which I have seen occasionally here in the past. 

Bring lunch & a snack, water, sunscreen & a hat as we have sun exposure once reaching the edge of the Plains. Leaders are Beverly Sherrer & Linda Murphy. We already have permits for 8 but as we reach closer to 10 days before hike date I may be able to increase it to 10 if I can get 2 more permits. Meet at So. Century Fire Station at 9:00 (new time) on North Side to form car pools.
