Hearty Soles Hike-Obsidian Trailhead

McKenzie Highway to Obsidian TH for a 13 mile hike/ Elevation gain 2,090 ft leading through lava flows, forested areas, meandering streams, Mountain views of North & Middle Sisters, Little Brother, Collier Cone, Yapoah Crater. Then we advance up a steeper portion of this trail past the fast moving Glacier Creek and up into Sunshine Meadows which connects with PCT trail. This gorgeous Alpine Meadow is the jumping off point to climb North & Middle Sisters from the West side of the Cascades. We continue to Oppie Dilldock Pass at 6,878 ft with a possible side trail (.03) first to view closeup of the North Sister’s largest Glacier, Collier. From the Pass we hike to the next junction of the PCT trail and turn left onto Scott Trail & it’s Meadows. 

The trail stretches out toward 4-1 Cone as we pass by on its left to finish this last sections of forest and at times hike along the lava flow at a gentler elevation loss to Scott TH & our vehicles.

This is a shuttle hike first leaving some cars at Scott TH then on down to Obsidian TH. The hike is one of endurance & rated strenuous requiring hydration the day BEFORE hike & the day of which should include electrolytes in your plentiful supply of water. Recommended at least 2.5-3 liters of water with Plenty of snacks as leader will have you take breaks to refuel in addition to a lunch break. Hiking boots only, sun hat, sun screen, mosquito spray, cotton neck scarf to dip in stream or your water to keep you cool, layer clothing, hiking poles recommended and always include a  wind/rain breaker in your pack. 

This trailhead requires a permit with only 9 allowed including leaders and hike is subject to attaining these permits & hikers willing to drive to complete shuttle. $1 for permit, $6-7 for drivers, possible Sisters ice cream stop if time allows.
