MidSoles Hike Benham Falls to Slough Meadows

When: Wednesday, April 9 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Meet at 9:30 a.m. at SCF Church parking lot at 18139 Cottonwood Rd to carpool, or meet at the Benham Falls East Trailhead parking lot on FS-9702 at 10 a.m.  Bring $2 for driver if carpooling.

This trailhead is accessible through the Lava Lands exit when heading south from Bend on Hwy 97. From Sunriver, head east on Cottonwood Road, drive underneath Hwy 97 (Exit 151) turn left towards Lava Lands, follow Crawford Rd/NF-9702 to Benham Falls East Trailhead, about 4 miles. If the Exit 151 road to Lava Lands is still closed, proceed north on Hwy 97 to Exit 143 and go southbound on Hwy 97 to Lava Lands exit.

Description:  1 ½ hour easy out and back trail with ½ hour break for snack.

This portion of the Deschutes River trail is 4.6 miles and 246 elevation gain out and back. Traveling along a beautiful section of the Deschutes River Trail, this trail offers fantastic river views, waterfalls, and abundant wildlife. The first half of the route has the most river views, and the second half runs through lovely meadows.

When considering signing up for this hike, please review the specifics (e.g. distance, elevation gain, trail surface - gravel, rocky, soft sand etc.) to determine if this trail meets your fitness level.

Gear:  Water, snacks, $ for going out to lunch afterwards (optional), hiking poles (optional), sturdy hiking shoes, layered clothing, personal first aid supplies.  A day parking permit ($5) or a NW Forest Pass or National Forest Pass is required to park at the trailhead.
