Black Rock Ride and Trail Work with Women of COTA
When: June 19, 2024. Arrive by: 9:45 a.m., Roll out at 10 a.m., End at 1 p.m.
Where: Meet at the beginning of the Sun Lava Trail at the Canoe-Takeout parking lot near Circle
7 in Sunriver.
Ride Description: This is a beginner/intermediate trail with about 400' elevation gain heading toward the
Lava Butte Visitors' Center. Riding should take about an hour each direction, leaving an hour for
raking and brushing trail work with Women of COTA. The riding distance is about 2 miles
from Sunriver to the beginning of Black Rock trail and 4.3 miles each direction on the
trail to and from the Visitors' Center. There are restrooms at the Visitors' Center.
There are 4 short rock gardens that are more challenging, but they are short and can be
easily walked through. Michelle Brown, a Crew Leader with Women of COTA will lead
the work party (brushing and raking of less than a mile of the trail), and will
demonstrate her rock garden skills along the way through 4 rock gardens. It will be a fun
ride and an opportunity to see how fun it is to work with Women of COTA and to
contribute to maintaining our trails. Black Rock is actually in pretty good shape, so a
great one to start with.
Gear: A helmet is required. Women of COTA may provide helmets that meet both cycling and
hard hat standards, as required by the Forest Service. Bring snacks and drinks, bug repellent, sunscreen.
