Mountain Biking: Roots and Rocks Clinic #2

When:  9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Friday, May 29, 2026

Info: This ride repeats the information provided in the Roots and Rocks ride on May 18. It’s designed to provide a second opportunity to participate for those unable to attend the first Roots and Rocks introductory mountain bike clinic.

Meet at the Sun Lava Trail trailhead kiosk off Circle 7 in Sunriver by 9:30 a.m.  Roll-out time is 9:45 a.m. Parking is free in the adjacent gravel/dirt parking area. You’ll see the parking area just off Circle 7 where the Deschutes River Trail and the Sun-Lava Paved Path meet. The clinic will last approximately 2.5 hours.

Description: Do you feel a little intimidated by riding on a trail with a lot of roots and rocks? This ride will focus on tips on how to successfully ride over roots and will introduce sessioning and finding your line when navigating a rock garden.

This is an approximately 3 mile beginner’s ride on a level, single-track trail. Bring water and snacks. A helmet is required. A front suspension or full suspension bike is also required.  A dropper post (a button-activated seat dropper) is recommended.  Sunriver Sports and Village Bike and Ski may offer rental discounts to those of you who mention you are taking this class through the SRWC Cycling group.  They may not carry full suspension bikes or bikes with dropper posts, however,  Sunnyside Sports on Newport Avenue in Bend does carry a limited supply of rental full suspension bikes with dropper posts.

Before you arrive for the ride, please read the guidelines for mountain bike group rides here. If you need a visual reminder on commonly used bike signals, it’s available here.

Gear:

Bring your bike, helmet (required), sunglasses, layered clothing, shoes for an easy hike, personal first aid supplies, sunscreen, bug spray, water, snacks and a bagged lunch.
