The trail winds through steep and uneven areas as you get higher up. You'll meander across vast lava fields that progressively open up to reveal panoramic views. When reaching the peak of Lava Butte, hikers are rewarded with expansive vistas of the Cascade Range, which provide insight into the region's spectacular geologic past. Amidst the rugged terrain, you can frequently encounter wildlife like birds, squirrels, deer, and elk.
