Description:

Enjoy this 5 to 5.5 mile loop trail in Bend, Oregon. Generally considered an easy route, it should take about 2 hours to complete. This is a very popular area for running and walking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. A ridge climb tops the Deschutes River Trail. There are paved riverbank walks along some of the trails. You'll be rewarded by a view into the area's past along the Old Mill Reach. This park is the remnant of the logging industry, which once produced board feet of lumber from two mills, ushering in the region's industrial heyday. There is very little elevation gain and we’ll cross the river several times on bridges. Trail is a combination of both paved and dirt/gravel. After the hike, we can stop for beverages or lunch in the Old Mill.

When considering signing up for this hike, please review the specifics (e.g. distance, elevation gain, trail surface - gravel, rocky, soft sand etc.) to determine if this trail meets your fitness level.

Gear: Water, snacks, $ for going out to lunch afterwards (optional), hiking poles (optional), sturdy hiking shoes, layered clothing, personal first aid supplies, insect repellent.
