Four in One Cone, Tuesday August 10
Leaders: Liz LeCuyer and Bev Sherrer
Permits allow 4 hikers plus the leaders.
This is a very rewarding 9 mile out-and-back hike, beginning at the Scott Trailhead on the McKenzie Hiway (about 6 miles past the Dee Wright Observatory). It is rated moderate to difficult depending on the source.
Meet at Holy Trinity Catholic Church parking lot at 8:00 AM. Bring hiking poles, sturdy boots (trail crosses lava flows), lunch and snack, and plenty of water.
The trail begins as a gentle to moderate climb through old growth forest and across lava flows. It ends in a large alpine meadow, with an optional hike to the top of the 4 Cones (4 cinder cones along a ridge) with incredible views of the Cascades to the north. On the other side are up-close views of North and Middle Sister (and reportedly Little Brother and The Husband)!
Elevation gain is about 1,500 ft including the hike up to the ridge with the 4 Cones.
We can stop in Sisters on the way back for ice cream if we want (or need!) to.
