Explore Bend Trails, with Brunch at Original Pancake House

When:  10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025

Meet at the Cascade Lakes Welcome Center in Bend a few minutes before 10 a.m.  We’ll head out on the trail at 10.  Parking requires a Northwest Forest Pass or National Forest Day pass.

Description:

Let’s check out the bike trails in Bend and have brunch along the way. There are two options for this ride – one if you’re feeling like burning a little energy and one if you want an easy cruise.  We’ll all start together at the Cascade Lakes Welcome Center and ride the paved trails down to the Original Pancake House on SW Donovan Ave. All of the ride is on shared pedestrian/bike trail separated from traffic. It’s about five and a half miles of mostly flat or slight downhill riding. Because it’s a shared trail, we’ll hold an easy pace appropriate for encountering walkers and runners. This ride is appropriate for road bikes and mountain bikes.

We’ll have brunch together at the Original Pancake House. After breakfast, you’ll have the option of riding back to the starting point or ending your ride there and having someone pick up you and your bike at the Pancake House. If the latter option appeals to you, you may want to have that someone drop you off at the starting point so you don’t need to go back and retrieve a car. You could also team up with another rider and stage one car at the start point and one at the Pancake House.

If you’re riding back to the Cascade Lakes Welcome Center, your overall ride will be about 11.4 miles, with an elevation gain of 547 feet on the way back.  We’ll take it slowly with plenty of water breaks. It’s a great way to burn off those pancakes! And the trail is lovely, even going uphill.

Before you arrive for the ride, please read the guidelines for group rides here. If you need a visual reminder on commonly used bike signals, it’s available here.

Gear:

Bring your bike, helmet (required), sunglasses, layered clothing, personal first aid supplies, sunscreen, bug spray, water and money for brunch.
