Crack in the Ground Hike

When:  Thursday, December 4, 8:00 am - 3:00 pm

Info : Meet at VBAG to carpool to the trailhead, plan on leaving at 8:00 am. The trailhead is near Christmas Valley, it is a 1:45 drive to the trailhead. We will stop for lunch in Christmas Valley after the hike.

Description: Join us for this unique hike that includes a style like slot canyon. Crack-in-the-Ground is a 2-mile-long and 70-foot-deep ancient volcanic fissure that is unique because very little sediment has filled it in over the years due to where it is located. A well-defined trail along the fissure’s bottom offers a unique hike, where the temperature can be as much as twenty degrees cooler than at the surface. There are some steep areas and a little bit of climbing required, but nothing too challenging.

The trailhead has a restroom but no drinking water. To reach it, 4WD is recommended.
