Steins Pillar is 350 feet tall and is named after Major Enoch Steen, who explored this area in the 1860s. His name was so often misspelled thatthe misspelling stuck, which is why itis now called Steins Pillarinstead of Steens Pillar. The besttimes to visitthis trail are May through October. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 58 min to complete this 4 mile hike with 790 feet elevation gain.

Carol McGovern and Kathie Maier are co-leading this hike.

Meet in parking lot between Village Grill and First Interstate Bank at 8am

Bring plenty of water, snacks, lunch, hat, sunglasses, bug spray, sunscreen, poles optional but reccomended.

Lunch may follow at local eatery following hike  (optional)

All hikers registered will be notified of meet-time changes prior to day of hike, permit requirements,weather forecasts and any other info. pertaining to hike.

* Depending on number of hikers will determine how many drivers needed.

Typically...

2-4  1 driver

5-10  2 drivers

10-12  3 drivers 

$3.00 donation to drivers for drive within 60 miles

$5.00  donation to drivers for drive more than 60 miles
