Mtn Bike Ride from Lava Island Day Use to Slough Day Use

When:  Thursday, June 12, 2025, 8:30am-12:30pm

We will ride in the forest along the Deschutes River at an easy pace on this advanced beginner mountain bike ride beginning at the Lava Island day-use area. We will ride to Slough day-use, stop for water, snack and pictures and head back. This ride is on single track, doubletrack and a little on the Slough access road. There are a few hills and part is on gravel, but nothing technical.  The ride is a 9.3 mile lollipop with an elevation gain of about 350 feet.

We will meet at 8:30am in the parking lot at the Country Store in Sunriver and caravan to the Lava Island day-use area, which can be accessed from Bend or FS Road 41. The first 8 miles of Rd 41 are gravel, but nothing too severe. The access road to the day-use area can have stretches of holes.  You could also meet us at the Lava Island day-use area but please be sure to let us know so we are not waiting for you.  Note that towards the end of the access road the signs or Google directions say to veer left, but stay straight to get to the parking area where we start. You will need a NW Forest Parking Pass.

Gear:  Mountain bike or Gravel bike. Helmets are required. Sunscreen, bug spray, water, snack, personal first aid supplies and $ for carpooling.

When considering signing up for this ride, please review the specifics (e.g. distance, elevation gain, trail surface - gravel, rocky, soft sand etc.) to determine if this trail meets your fitness level.
