Hearty Soles Hike - Kick Butte Challenge #8 and Six Peaks Summit Challenge #2 Combo: Black Butte

The Kick Butte Challenge consists of hiking 6 out of 8 buttes. These hikes are designed to get you ready for steeper and longer hikes as the season progresses.You may complete the challenge by hiking six of the buttes with the Hearty Soles, or hiking one or more with someone else and taking a picture of yourself at the top of the butte. You will submit the picture to Melodee Munckton at melodeem@gmail.com. At the end of season, those completing the challenge will receive a colorful bandana scarf with the year.

When considering this hike, please review the specifics (e.g. distance, elevation gain, trail surface - gravel rock, soft sand etc )  and elevation gain per mile to determine if this event matches your fitness level.

This is a combined hike for both challenges, we will probably need more drivers. High clearance vehicles are helpful on dirt roads; bathroom at trailhead.

When: July 8 Leave at 7:45 a.m  Back around 3 p.m. depending on stops depending on stops for refreshments afterwards and bathroom breaks.

Description: This is a 4 mile out and back trail with an elevation gain of 1568 feet and top elevation of 6355 feet.  There is a beautiful building at the top with views of Santiam pass, Washington and Three Finger Jack Road .  There may be wildflowers.

Gear: Be prepared to be in the sun all day, so hats, fluid replacements, snacks, and lunch. Second peak, but lots of elevation, please be in good health and shape. Also, as always, sunscreen, bug spray, hat, water, snacks, lunch, $ for carpooling or food event afterwards, hiking poles, sturdy hiking shoes, dry bag, layered clothing, personal first aid supplies. As there still might be snow at the top - might need yak tracs, or snowshoes.
