★  Why is this
important?

Graduation rates for south Deschutes County are below statewide and district averages.

  • Studies show students’ participation in activities outside of school increases the likelihood of graduation and successful employment.
  • These types of activities for south Deschutes County students are limited compared to other schools.

★  How can student
success
be improved?

The South County Collaborative (SCC) is a nonprofit community organization launched with the support of SRWC.  The nonprofit focuses on creating long-term, sustainable solutions to improve student success.

    • They facilitate mentorships, family engagement activities, tutoring assistance,  mental health services, after and out of school activities, plus internships, career counseling and the expansion of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs to keep students invested in their future.

★  Bonus
opportunity!

The initial success by SCC brought more dollars to the community with an Oregon Department of Education (ODE) grant to continue their work.

        • The ODE offered the possibility of a continuation grant if the SCC was successful in raising additional funds.
        • The Power of Giving helps that effort.
