Moonlight Kayak - Sparks Lake
When: Friday, July 19th, 7pm - 9:30pm
Meet at 7 pm at Sparks Lake. Please carpool if possible. Bring $3 for driver if carpooling. This site requires a recreation/day parking permit ($5) or Northwest Forest pass.
2 hour paddle with 1/2 hour snack. Easy to Intermediate.
Let's meet at Sparks Lake at 7pm for a moonlight kayak around the lake. The sun begins to set around 7:45, and the moon begins to rise around 8pm. It does not reach it's highest point until 3:13am, but we should be able to watch it rise and enjoy some of it's light as darkness settles in (barring any cloud covering which is beyond our control). Along with the essentials listed bring a hydration drink and any other "beverages” you would like and snacks. We will float around for a while and then can stop in one of the coves to enjoy our beverage and snack and enjoy the moon. You might bring a pad or blanket to sit on if you want to get out of your Kayak.
Note: AQI above 150, lightening or other safety risks cancels event. We will notify you 3 hours before the event if needing to cancel.
Gear: Required PFD (life preserver), whistle, sun screen, bug repellant, hat, sun glasses, long sleeve shirt, towel, snacks, drinks, dry sac, Invasive Species Permit if kayak longer than 10 feet. Check the weather, might want to bring a light jacket and towel/blanket for legs. It gets cooler when the sun sets.
