Alder Springs Hike, Monday, May 10
6-7.2 miles; 500-910 ft elevation change.
This is a moderately difficult hike primarily due to a knee-thigh high water crossing of 15-20 feet across. Bring sandals or water socks and be prepared to wade in some current. Hiking poles are highly recommended for the crossing and the rocky trail down to the confluence with the Deschutes River.
The hike offers a variety of natural wonders: views to the central Cascades, the multi-layered palisades and rock sculpture of the Deschutes Formation, a cooling creek ford, lush springs and the wildflowers should be in season! The hike back is all uphill. Be ready for warm temperatures in the canyon (even in May!) and bring lots of water. Rattlesnakes have been reported.
