  About

The Sunriver Women’s Club was started in 1972 by a small group of local women. Sheridan Allis was the first president and said they wanted to "do some good for Sunriver...and not be so isolated from the larger community in which we live."

Teresa Bowerman joined in 1973. She shared some of her early experiences with the club at a 2024 luncheon. There was no hiking group at that time but they liked to meet and sew. She was very complimentary of the club reaching the million dollar mark in donations.

The club has grown in membership, stature and recognition by taking on new challenges. The essence of the Women's Club is to be a caring partner to our neighbors, nonprofits in south Deschutes County, local businesses and visitors. Since 1999, it has awarded over $1.2 million in community grants.

“I am immensely proud of our club and the work that we do on behalf of our community –especially in these difficult times!”

-Mechelle Griffin, member since 2019.

“I hope it keeps going as long as Sunriver exists! The SRWC just keeps finding new ways to help people. It’s become an outstanding group of diverse individuals with different backgrounds and life experiences. It’s wonderful!”

-Ann Bayless, past president, 2000-2001, member since 1998.
