OBSIDIAN TRAIL off McKenzie Pass in 3 Sisters Wilderness is a PERMIT hike leading to one of the most beautiful Alpine areas in Oregon & very popular with hikers. Streams meander throughout wildflower meadows nestled here between Middle & North Sisters and Little Brother. Snowmelt tarns shimmer from plateaus strewn with black Obsidian glass. A few outstanding features are Sunshine Meadows, White Branch Creek and Obsidian Falls. Hike leaders are Gina Rosbrook ginarosbrook1@gmail.com & Beverly Sherrer beverlysh@msn.com or text 541-480-7707. Hike length will be determined the day before the hike; Re: temperatures. The Loop hike taking in both Obsidian Falls & Sunshine Meadows would be 11+ miles while doing an in and out hike would be close to 8-9 miles. Total elevation gain is 1800 feet. Meet at HTCC parking lot at 7:30am and bring plenty of snacks AND water preferred with added electrolytes and lunch. Sturdy boots as a small portion of trail is in lava fields, hiking poles ADVISED, sunscreen. Sister's treat stop afterwards. This is an all day trip time wise. Bring money for permit $1, gas $6 and treat.
