Hager Mt. - Hearty Soles
Chasing the Blooms Hike
When: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Thursday, June 18.
Info: 8 a.m. Thursday, June 18. Meet at the Country Store parking lot. It is a 1.5-hour drive to the trailhead: south on 97; east on 31; right on East Bay Road (just before Silver Lake) for 9 miles; left on FS-012 (just past lower trailhead).
Description:
This is the sixth in a series of wildflower hikes in our new Chasing the Blooms Challenge. The focus is to identify as many wildflower species as possible. This is a less-traveled, early-season hike of 4.6 miles and ~1500 feet of elevation gain. Peak wildflower bloom is typically from early June through the end of July and is often a jaw-dropping display of color and mountain views. Potential species are listed on iNaturalist. Mosquitos are often in the trees on the lower trail; ticks some years (stay on the trail!). Rough, overgrown road in. Pit toilets at the top, not at the bottom.
Gear:
Light hiking shoes, poles for the rocky steep sections, sunscreen, hats, insect repellent, a picnic lunch and $5 for the driver. We will have a picnic lunch at the top, where there is a picnic table and a pit toilet.
