Learn the Basics on dry land

Meet at the SROA put-in, next to the SR marina. Someone will give you access if needed.
This event is for those who are new to kayaking. We will go over safety, paddle technique, embarking and disembarking, steering, getting comfortable sitting in a kayak! There will be an opportunity to launch into the water, do some basic paddling in the lagoon area. We will NOT go out on the river.
I will have 3 different kayaks. Bring a kayak if you have one.
Suggested Gear: Required life preserver (PFD), whistle, water shoes, sun screen, bug repellant, hat, sun glasses, long sleeve shirt, towel, snacks, drinks, dry sac, Invasive Species Permit if kayak longer than 10 feet.
When registering, you will need to agree to the waiver below:
Parking pass: none needed
Difficulty: Easy, unless the wind comes up. This will be an out and back. Approximately 3 hours.
FOOD: The leader will be hosting a fire roasted hotdog feed at the end of the paddle at campsite 18. Bring lawn chairs, and whatever you want to drink. Hotdogs, salad and chips will be provided.
Participant limit: none... but registration is required
Gear: Sun screen, bug repellant, hat, sun glasses, long sleeve shirt, towel, snacks, drinks, dry sac, Invasive Species Permit if kayak longer than 10 feet.
