Lava Island to Slough Day Use Area Ride

Friday, July 26, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Meet at the Sunriver Country Store

Ride in the forest and  along the Deschutes River at an easy pace on this advanced beginner mountain bike ride from the Lava Island day-use area to Slough  Camp and back. This ride is on singletrack, doubletrack and a little on the Slough access road. There are  a few hills and a few stretches of gravel but very few rocks.

Meet at 8:30 a.m. outside the Country Store in Sunriver to caravan to the Lava Island day-use area, which can be accessed from Bend or FS Road 41, just outside Sunriver. The first eight miles of  41 are gravel, but nothing severe. The access road to the day-use area has stretches of large holes. Towards the end of it, the signs or Google directions  say veer left, but stay straight to get to the parking area, where we start.

Helmets are a must, bring water and a snack.

We will ride to Slough Camp, have a snack and ride back. We should be back to Sunriver by 12:30 or sooner.

The ride is a 9.3-mile lollipop with an elevation gain of about 350 feet.

Ride leaders are   Nancy Todd (dearmrstodd@yahoo.com; 503-810-2627) and Brigid Kennaday (541-643-4251;  bkennaday@gmail.com
