    Welcome Back Happy Hour

Summer break is over, visitors to our lovely Sunriver community have gone back to their homes and now it is time for us to reconnect with each other.  The 2025 “Welcome Back” Happy Hour will be held at Century Commons from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10.  Come join us to reconnect with old friends and make new ones.  Everyone will receive a raffle ticket for numerous prizes that will be raffled off during the event.

Representatives from each of the programs, activities, and events will be there to informally talk about all that the SRWC has to offer.  New members can register at the event, so this is a great time to bring non-member friends.  A  "tech team" will be available for new member registrations and to help members add their photo to their Wild Apricot profile.

This is a no-host event. Enjoy good food and drink from Century Common’s extensive bar and food vendors.

This will be a pint night fundraiser for SRWC: Century Commons will donate a portion of their beverage proceeds to the club.  So bring your friends and significant others to join in the fun.

    Description:

Let’s check out the bike trails in Bend and have brunch along the way. There are two options for this ride – one if you’re feeling like burning a little energy and one if you want an easy cruise.  We’ll all start together at the Cascade Lakes Welcome Center and ride the paved trails down to the Original Pancake House on SW Donovan Ave. All of the ride is on shared pedestrian/bike trail separated from traffic. It’s about five and a half miles of mostly flat or slight downhill riding. Because it’s a shared trail, we’ll hold an easy pace appropriate for encountering walkers and runners. This ride is appropriate for road bikes and mountain bikes.

We’ll have brunch together at the Original Pancake House. After breakfast, you’ll have the option of riding back to the starting point or ending your ride there and having someone pick up you and your bike at the Pancake House. If the latter option appeals to you, you may want to have that someone drop you off at the starting point so you don’t need to go back and retrieve a car. You could also team up with another rider and stage one car at the start point and one at the Pancake House.

If you’re riding back to the Cascade Lakes Welcome Center, your overall ride will be about 11.4 miles, with an elevation gain of 547 feet on the way back.  We’ll take it slowly with plenty of water breaks. It’s a great way to burn off those pancakes! And the trail is lovely, even going uphill.

Before you arrive for the ride, please read the guidelines for group rides here. If you need a visual reminder on commonly used bike signals, it’s available here.

    Gear:

Bring your bike, helmet (required), sunglasses, layered clothing, personal first aid supplies, sunscreen, bug spray, water and money for brunch.

    Tamolitch Blue Pool

    When: Monday October 6, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Meet at 8:00 a.m. at the SCF Church parking lot at 18139 Cottonwood Rd to carpool or meet at 9:30 a.m. at the trailhead. Bring $5 for the driver if carpooling.

    Description:

TAMOLITCH BLUE POOL-3.9 mile out and back with 285 ft. elevation. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 1/2 hours to complete.  This short portion of the McKenzie River National Recreation Trail takes you to the beautiful turquoise Tamolitch Pool, also known as Blue Pool.  The beginning of this easy hike is through an old-growth Douglas fir forest.  As the McKenzie River falls away, you walk along a cliff and descend into a dry river bed which eventually comes to an old lava flow.  The trail is not too strenuous but there is some elevation gain as can be seen on the tracks and footing can be tricky in a few places.  Be advised the trail passes one ledge with a steep drop-off to the river a short distance before Blue Pool.  At Blue Pool, the water is 37 degrees year-round.  This pool is actually where the McKenzie River emerges after submerging into a lava tube at the Carmen Reservoir, creating the Tamolitch Falls. It’s known as a “dry fall” because during especially wet rainy winters the river will flood over the lava bed and waterfall into the Tamolitch Pool. Best hiked April thru June, October.

When considering signing up for this hike, please review the specifics (e.g. distance, elevation gain, trail surface - gravel, rocky, soft sand etc.) to determine if this trail meets your fitness level.

Gear:  Water, snacks, $ for going out to lunch afterwards (optional), hiking poles (optional), sturdy hiking shoes, layered clothing, personal first aid supplies, insect repellent.  May require a parking permit that can be purchased at the parking lot.

Meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Sunriver Nature Center(SNCO) parking lot. Bring $2 for driver if carpooling.

    Description:

Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory (SNCO) is hosting it’s 9th Annual Fungi Fest & Mushroom Show on Saturday, October 11 – this year at the Sunriver SHARC.

In the week leading up to the main event, there are a variety of activities, including this brand-new Fungi Foray Field Trip being offered just for Sunriver Women’s Club members!

SNCO’s event partner, the Central Oregon Mushroom Club (COMC), will be leading this event. Trip leader and COMC Board Member, Anne Ehrlich, is excited to share her love of fungi with participants. She will teach us how to identify mushrooms, as well as how to collect and handle them. Please note – this area is not known for its edible mushrooms. We will be seeking a wide variety of mushrooms, all of which will be collected for Saturday’s Fungi Fest & Mushroom Show. You will go home with the thrill of adventure, photos, and new knowledge gained – but no mushrooms in hand.

The location is near Edison Snow Park and is a little steep.

There is a fee of $35 to be paid to SNCO.  This is a fundraising event for SNCO and the Central Oregon Mushroom Club.  We are getting a discount on the fee which is normally $50 per person.

Prepare to cast some spells and enjoy the annual Witches’ Paddle this Halloween—Friday, October 31.  Dust off your broomsticks (or paddleboards) and don your most enchanting witchy attire for an afternoon of magical fun on the river. The event kicks off from Riverbend Park between 4-6 PM, so feel free to swoop in whenever you can.

    https://www.mtstar.org/witches-paddle/witches-paddle

This event is a fundraiser for MountainStar, one of our grant recipients.  They ask that diapers be donated and there will be a place to drop them off at the launch site at River Bend Park.

Since we all have kayaks/SUPS to transport, meet at the launch spot at 4:00 pm.  We can float for an hour or so and then, for those interested, we can join the Loose Cannon spectators/cheerleaders for dinner at 5:30 pm at Anthony's.  I'm thinking that after we load our water vehicles onto our cars, we could walk along the river to the restaurant.

For those of you who are not inclined to float, consider joining the Loose Cannons spectators/cheerleaders (it's a great event to witness!) and dinner event:   https://sunriverwomensclub.org/event-6311908
