Social Programs The following activities are open to all members of the SRWC and advertised through the monthly newsletter. No sign-ups are required unless indicated in the description. Birthday Lunch (members only) This committee arranges a "no host” lunch for members with birthdays in the same month to gather for celebration of their birthdays in a small group setting. Community Picnic (open to all) The Community Picnic is hosted by the SRWC and is open to all residents in the greater Sunriver area. Typically held in July along the riverbank at Mary McCallum Park, it is a great opportunity to gather and enjoy a summer evening. Reservations are requested but not required. Monthly Luncheons (members only) Luncheons take place October through May and are normally held at Crosswater. Each month there is a speaker or special program. Reservations are required. SRWC Holiday Event (members & guests) Previously a fundraising event, the Winter Gala will be re-imagined as a purely social event for 2022. Stay tuned for more information. Registration will be required for this event. Happy Hour Gatherings, New Member Coffees & Let’s Do Lunch (members only) New this Year! Each month we will offer several social activities offering our members a chance to see old friends, make new ones and discover the various ways we connect with each other. Group Programs These activities require sign-up through our Wild Apricot membership system. You can do this when you register/renew your membership, or you can go into your profile and make changes (add/delete activities). The activity organizers send information to the email list for each scheduled activity. Book Clubs (members only) There are currently eight book clubs meeting with 10 -15 people each. We form new groups as we receive interest from enough members. Dinner Club (members & guests) The Dinner Club is for members who share a passion for food. They meet in small groups at members’ homes once every 6-8 weeks for a special themed, shared menu. Hearty Soles Hiking Group (members only) This group hikes from April to October on various days of the week. Their hikes are usually 4 - 10 miles and include moderate to challenging increases in elevation. Loose Cannons (members only) Group organized social activities with no set day or time. Activities are dependent on current local events and the interests of members. This is a “members only” group open to all women in SRWC. Mid Soles Hiking Group (members only) This group hikes or walks from April to October. Their hikes are usually 4-8 miles with moderate or less increases in elevation. Winter Fun (members only) This group meets for fun winter outdoor activities like snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, sledding, or ice skating. Community Service Programs Community Service Projects at a local nonprofit: (members & guests) New this Year! This year we will have a few opportunities to go as a group to complete a community service project for one of our local nonprofits that is a current recipient of our community grant program. These projects will be advertised in the club newsletter so be watching! Sunriver Knitters: (members only) Sunriver Knitters work on individual projects and knit Chemo Care Caps for the Infusion Center at Bend Memorial Clinic, St. Charles Hospital Infusion Center and St. Charles Radiation Center. SRWC donates yarn for the chemo caps. Our Philanthropy Program The SRWC philanthropy program awards grants to local nonprofit agencies with the goal of providing a strong network of services that will improve the lives of the most vulnerable citizens residing in south Deschutes County. Since 1999, the SRWC philanthropy program has awarded over $800,000 to programs providing services to women, children, families and seniors to improve our south Deschutes County community. Fundraising events and programs supporting our community grant program: Art Meets Wine in the High Desert: (open to all) Held during Oregon Wine Month, this week-long event starts with several virtual wine tastings. These are a great opportunity to host a house party and share award-winning Oregon wines with friends & family! The event’s finale, Art Meets Wine Live!, is held at the SHARC on the third weekend of May. Sunriver Art Fair: (open to all) Held the second weekend in August, this three-day event brings artists and visitors from across the country. The Sunriver Art Fair was voted as one of the Top Ten shows in the country by ArtFairCalendar.com in its annual “Best Art Fair in America” survey. Fred Meyer Rewards: (open to all) Members can link their Fred Meyer Rewards card to the SRWC . This program donates a specific percentage of your purchase to the SRWC. Direct donations benefiting specific programs: Power of 50 for Education: (open to all) The Power of 50 for Education is a direct donation program in honor of the SRWC’s 50th anniversary in 2022. The club set a goal of raising $50,000 to support student success in south Deschutes County. To date we have raised over 75% of our goal. Fundraising supporting club operations: Twilight Cinemas: (members & guests) The Village holds Twilight Cinema nights in The Village or at SHARC during the summer. SRWC runs the refreshment booth. |
