SRWC January 2020 Newsletter

Presidents Message

Happy New Year! It is a new year and a new decade, which I find hard to believe. What happened to 2010 when Phil and I moved to Sunriver? The SRWC finished 2019 with great flair! Kathy Garofalo-Nakae and her team did an amazing job on the Winter Gala by creating a beautiful Enchanted Forest and a very successful fundraiser for the SRWC. Thank you to Kathy and her team!

A new decade does not slow the SRWC down. Soft Soles has a New Year’s Day hike on the Sunriver pathways. “Winter Wear for Kids” is continuing to collect donations. You can drop off your donations at Cascade Sotheby’s in the Village, First Interstate Bank or bring them to our monthly luncheon on January 21 at River Meadows. How easy is that? The Philanthropy Committee is very busy as “grant request season” has started. For the second year in a row, we have $50,000 to grant to non-profits in south Deschutes County. I find that exciting!

Have you seen our new website? It is updated, informative and has a “members only” section where you can look up other member’s information…think of the information the directory contains. Kudos to Laura Dickinson for making this change. It took a lot of work on Laura’s part to make this switch. Thank you also to Leslie Fuhrman, Lorna Nolte, Cindy McCabe and Laurel Brennan for their input and work on the website.

The location for our January and February luncheons has changed due to a kitchen remodel at Crosswater. We will be going to River Meadows Club House. Complete directions will be available for those attending.

Lunch with Friends will be Wednesday, February 5, at 11:30 am at the SHARC. This is a casual way to have lunch with other SRWC members. Bring a sandwich, yogurt or whatever you eat for lunch and come join us. At the last Lunch with Friends, I stopped and got a personal pizza at Blondies.

As always, keep reading for further details on all our events and fundraising opportunities. Thank you for “Steppin’ Up for Friends, Fun and Philanthropy”!!! --

Nancy Fischer

    Coats For Kids

The Winter Wear drive is going strong.  The kids of south county are benefiting from the items donated.  Just after Thanksgiving waterproof gloves, boots and sweatpants were taken to Rosland Elementary School.  The message received from the school was there is a "dire" need for those items. Another delivery of over 25 coats was delivered before the Christmas break.

The Coats for Kids donations are accepted all winter, items can be delivered to Cascade Sotheby's Realty (bldg 5, SR Village) or First Interstate Bank in Sunriver.  At the time of this writing the items in need are waterproof gloves/mittens and boots in elementary and middle school sizes.

If you have any questions please contact Kelly Winch, 541-390-3098.

    Winter Gala

The Winter Gala has come and gone and truly was an Enchanted Evening.  The tremendous success of this event was made possible through Sponsorship (a huge thank you to Platinum Sponsors, John and Bonnie Rosen and Gold Sponsors Lava Island Builders and Sue Carletti-Johnson), donations received from so many community businesses, by those individuals who donated their time and their personal items, and by my amazing Committee members Ann Juttelstad, Cindie Tegner and Marilyn Peery.  Lastly, the success was due to the incredible generosity from those attending the Gala by purchasing raffle tickets and bidding on live and silent auction items.

THANK YOU to everyone involved in this success from the bottom of my heart.

    Kathy Garofalo
