As I write my last President’s Message, I realize what an honor it has been to be President of the Sunriver Women’s Club for the past three years.
When I started my first year as President in May 2019, I had no clue what a challenge the SRWC would face over the next three years. March 2020 changed everything for the world and the SRWC. The SRWC stepped up and started the COVID-19 Nonprofit Emergency Fund, which raised over $48,000. We switched monthly luncheons, book clubs, and meetings to Zoom and our members were able to continue hiking and winter fun activities. In 2021, we were able to hold our fundraisers again with our wine and art event going virtual and the Sunriver Art Fair holding both a virtual and slightly smaller in-person event. The pandemic made us rethink how we could hold the Community Picnic and we started a new format of “Bring Your Own Picnic” which was popular and will continue to be the format of the Community Picnic. In 2022, I am looking forward to Art Meets Wine in the High Desert, Celebrate 50, Community Picnic, and Sunriver Art Fair. All of them will be successful events.
Did you attend the Celebration of Giving luncheon? What an amazing job Kris Besson, Valerie Stensland, Kathy Ketchum, and the members of the Philanthropy Committee did in putting the presentation together. Lunch, catered by Marcello’s, was excellent. Thank you to Laura Sherar for organizing the luncheon.
May 9-14 is Art Meets Wine in the High Desert with virtual wine tastings, a wine pairing/cooking class, online auction, and the in-person event on May 14. Wine tasting is one of my favorite hobbies and I will definitely be participating.
Our May monthly luncheon will be at Crosswater on May 17. The program will be a preview of artists for the 2022 Sunriver Art Fair and installation of the 2022-2023 Board of Directors.
I would like to personally thank the 2021-2022 Board of Directors and Board Assistants. I could not have done this last year without you. It has been my pleasure to work with each of you. I also want to thank all the individuals who have “stepped up” to co-chair or chair a fundraiser or activity, work on a committee, lead a book club, hike or winter fun activity, volunteer for a shift, or make a monetary or in-kind donation. There are so many of you, but you know who you are…thank you!!! It takes a village to keep the SRWC going.
I also want to personally thank the 2022-2023 Board of Directors and Board Assistants for “steppin up”. Some of you are continuing as a Board member and some of you are new to the Board…thank you!!!
As always, keep reading for further details on all our events and fundraising opportunities.
Thank you for “50 Years of Steppin’ Up for Friends, Fun and Philanthropy”!!!
The SRWC Pandemic President!
